Caesarean sections
Caesarean sections may be required as a result of a baby becoming distressed during labour or if labour becomes obstructed due to a small pelvis, large baby or malposition of the baby. It might be indicated electively due to a history of previous Caesarean sections or uterine rupture, or if babies are in certain positions (for example lying sideways across the womb). MAMA is unable to perform caesarean sections at the two clinics, but we would refer a mother who may need an elective procedure or as a result of monitoring in labour the midwife has concerns progress is not being made or there are signs of distress. MAMA is able to transport the mother and her attendant with a midwife chaperone to the most appropriate place for a caesarean section ensuring they have all the drugs and equipment needed for the surgery before handing them over to hospital staff.
MAMA is able to offer a free referral service to our mothers, and also cover the requirements for surgery when necessary. We are very grateful for donations made to us which help cover the financial costs of these referrals.
